Frequently asked questions
How do I add and remove VAT correctly?
Add: Net × (1 + rate as decimal). E.g. 100 × 1.21 = 121. Remove: Gross ÷ (1 + rate). E.g. 121 ÷ 1.21 = 100.
What VAT rates are used in Spain?
As a general guide: standard 21%, reduced 10% and super-reduced 4%. There are 0% cases and some temporary 5% situations. Always check AEAT for current rules.
When should I use 10% or 4%?
10% and 4% apply to specific categories (e.g., food, books, pharma, new residential property 10% on price, etc.). See the official AEAT lists for details.
Do consumer prices include VAT?
Unless stated otherwise, retail prices usually include VAT. B2B invoices show net base and VAT as separate lines.
How is rounding handled?
Usually 2 decimals; you may round by line or invoice total depending on policy.
